Composite decking from companies like Deckorum offers many benefits when contrasted to other decking materials. One of them is that their design and construction to be durable and low maintenance.
As it pertains to the maintenance of composite decking boards, cleaning them is also very easy. You can clean a composite deck effectively with household cleaning equipment.
You should ensure that you have enough soap, a bucket of water, and a relatively stiff brush.
The following is how you clean composite decking:
Table of Contents
Step 1
Remove all the furniture and decorative items on the deck. This step might be the most cumbersome of them all, as it may require lifting heavy things.
Removing all the items you have placed on the porch ensures that none of them gets damaged or wet when cleaning. Some things may also absorb water or the cleaning chemicals you will use.
It also frees up space for you ensuring that nothing gets in the way while you clean the deck.
Step 2
You should remove any and all debris from the deck before you start cleaning it. You will do it by sweeping the deck using a stiff broom that can also get in between the board spacing.
There will be a significant amount of debris on the deck, particularly if the deck’s location outside is somewhere dust, pebbles, and leaves, among other things fall on it. The pieces of debris make it very difficult to clean the deck with soap and water.
If you have a vacuum cleaner, you can also use it to remove tiny dirt particles from the deck.
Step 3
The third step involves preparing the deck for soap you will use to clean it. You do this by rinsing the surface of the deck with water, preferably warm water.
The composite decking surface may include several elements that are hard to clean. If so, rinsing the surface with warm water ensures removing such elements and that cleaning will be thorough.
Step 4
It would be best to have a bucket of warm water and soap ready before you start cleaning. The best soap to use is a liquid soap, which dissolves into the water.
Mix the solution and stir to ensure the soap dissolves completely. Then dip the brush into the water and start scrubbing.
Ensure that you scrub the cracks between the boards as most of the dirt is located there. If you have a pressure washer, this is the time to use it though it is not necessary.
Once you are sure that you have cleaned all the grime and dirt, you can proceed.
Step 5
Rinse the entire deck with warm water. You should avoid using cold water if you used warm water on the deck earlier.
If there is a fair amount of sunshine, you can let the deck dry in the sun. Otherwise, you should dry the composite decking with a dry microfiber towel until it is completely dry.
Return all the furniture, décor, and accessories to the deck and enjoy.
