Buying Tips: Choosing the Best Bathtub

Bath and Shower

If space and budget would permit, a bathtub is one of the must-haves in the bathroom. It can instantly turn the space into a five-star spa and provide it with a high-end feel. It will also make an excellent accent piece that will become the focal point. Nonetheless, keep in mind that not all bathtubs are the same. Read on and we’ll help you to evaluate the possibilities that are available on the market.

Before we start, you might want to check out Badeloft and see the wide selection of stand alone tubs the company is selling.

Size

The first thing that you have to do is to determine the actual size of the room to know the size of the bathtub that will be suitable for the available space. The standard size of bathtubs is 12 inches in width and 60 inches in height. This could be bigger, almost double the size, if it will be used in a bathroom for couples. If you have a small bathroom, you might want to ditch the idea of having a bathtub as it can only make the space cramped.

Shape

Most of you will probably consider the shape of the bathtub for aesthetic reasons. Nonetheless, the shape is important beyond the looks. When choosing a bathtub shape, consider the space in the bathroom. The standard rectangular shape will be good if it is small. If you want novelty and if space is not an issue, you can opt for round or other shapes.

Material

When it comes to the most common bathtub materials, porcelain enameled steel is one of the most popular, which is known for being an affordable option. It has a steel sheet and is coated with porcelain enamel. It is easy to clean, but it can be easily prone to chipping. Acrylic is also an affordable choice, although the surface can be easily prone to scratches. If durability is important, cast iron is a classic material worth considering. Meanwhile, if you do not mind the price, cast polymers and engineered natural stones will add a hint of luxury to the bathroom.

Type

The type of bathtub will have an impact on its overall look and functionality. One of the most common is called the 3-wall alcove, which is a combination of a tub and a shower. This is a popular choice for those who would want to maximize the use of the available space. A drop-in tub, on the other hand, is a tub shell that is placed in a framed enclosure. Meanwhile, if you want to achieve a more sophisticated and high-end look, I suggest that you go for a freestanding or stand-alone tub instead. Clawfoot tubs will also be great for a vintage Elizabethan appeal.

In sum, bathtubs are available in all shapes and sizes. You should not pick one on the basis of price or looks alone. Consider the things that have been briefly mentioned above to arrive at a decision that won’t bring regrets.
