5 Signs You Need To Repair the Drains At Home

Bath and Shower
blocked drains

The home drainage system plays an important role in keeping a house clean and safe. Damaged or blocked drains can cause pressing issues inside of a house and can lead to many problems related to your health and the safety of your home’s environment.

These issues start small and can escalate to bigger problems, molds can occur on your house ceilings, drainage pipes might crack and burst due to excess pressure and due to blockage. The structural integrity of your house may become at risk due to waterlogging.

Here are 5 signs that indicate the drainage system inside your home may be at risk and in need of your attention and should be rectified as soon as possible in a professional manner.

  1. Table of Contents

    • Strange Smells
    • Toilet Not Flushing
    • Low Water Pressure
    • Deteriorating Ceiling
    • Gurgling Noises

    Strange Smells

No one wants a bad-smelling house. There can be bad smells coming from inside your house and this is a clear indication that your drainage system might be damaged or some kind of small animal might have crept inside and died.

This kind of odor has a very distinct and pungent smell. When your drainage system is in good condition all the smells stay inside the line. If you notice a bad smell coming inside from your house it may indicate a compromise in your drainage lines.

Trying to solve this problem can be difficult as it would not be easy to find where the line has been clogged but contacting the plumber can fix this problem.

  1. Toilet Not Flushing

Many homeowners don’t realize until their toilets start backing up water and when that happens it is usually too late. This also indicates that the drainage system might be clogged due to which water is not flushing properly from the toilet. Nobody wants to have a toilet that backs up water when you go to flush it.

When this happens, it is usually a good idea to start checking for a clog inside of the drainage lines and try to correct it before it causes any more damage. Using chemical uncloggers to try and rectify this issue can be a good idea and if that doesn’t work you can call in a plumber to do it for you.

  1. Low Water Pressure

A decrease in water pressure can be a clear indication that you may have a clogged drain inside your house. Debris such as sand or dirt might get trapped inside your faucet over time and can severely limit the amount of running water pressure. Corrosion inside the drainage pipes can also cause this issue.

You may also notice low water pressure in your shower head. These are the clear indicators that your drains maybe have been compromised and in need of a permanent fix.

  1. Deteriorating Ceiling

Over time, poorly installed or a damaged drainage system can cause your home ceilings to deteriorate and cause water damage. This is a very serious issue if left unsolved.

Look for areas of grey and white crust forming on the walls or paint chipping and being damaged by moisture, moreover, molds can also form on your walls and damage them due to moisture and humidity. If it is left unsolved this can cause cracks to form inside the wall and lead to very bad structural and integral issues.

It would be difficult to spot where exactly the leak has occurred inside the drainage pipe so your best bet would be to call in a professional plumber and ask him to repair the drainage line for you.

  1. Gurgling Noises

If you happen to hear weird gurgling noises coming from inside your house it can mean that your drains have been clogged and water is not passing through it properly.

Excess air could also be trapped inside the drains causing these gurgling sounds. Also, the facets inside your house could start pumping out air instead of water. If left unsolved this can cause a big problem in the long run and cause your drainage pipes to crack or at worse explode due to the excess pressure accumulating inside them.

You can put chemical uncloggers inside your drains to solve this, if you don’t succeed by yourself you can call in your trusted plumber who can do it for you in a proper manner.

Schedule an appointment with your trusted plumber or try to fix these problems yourself. Problems with your drainage system can cause damage in the long run. These start off small and become something big and risk your house's environment and safety.

The above mentioned 5 signs should be enough for you to judge whether your house needs repair to its drainage system or a new system overall.

This is a problem that shouldn’t be taken lightly and should be rectified as soon as possible. If you even spot one single issue that is mentioned above you should go ahead and take action and resolve it.
