The toilet is completely blocked
Don’t panic if your toilet is blocked. One of the techniques listed below should help you to unclog your toilet:
Stop flushing the toilet. You will only risk overflowing your toilet;
Use a toilet brush or folded hanger to try to remove the cap;
Add a little dishwashing liquid to the bowl and pour very hot water to help dislodge the cap;
Add a can of baking soda followed by a bottle of white vinegar, let the mixture work for a while, then add about 4 to 5 litres of hot water to ensure that the chemicals remain active, which should help you dislodge any obstructions in your toilet.

The toilet is still clogged despite everything
Use a yogurt carton to remove as much water as possible from the bowl.
Pour the contaminated water into a boiler; you will dispose of it later;
Fill a 2-litre plastic bottle with hot water;
Keep your thumb on the neck until you have pushed the bottle as deep as possible into the mouth of your toilet;
Hold the bottle firmly in place with both hands and press as hard as you can so that hot water flows into the toilet drain to dislodge the cap;
Try the suction cup. Place your suction cup firmly around the mouth of your toilet and press to push water through the drain;
Connect a garden hose to your tank and push it as far as possible inside your toilet. Open the hose supply so that the plug is pushed out of the drain of your toilet;
Then pour your bucket of soiled water into the toilet, then clean and disinfect the bucket and suction cup.

The toilet bowl overflows
If the water level rises in your toilet after flushing, but eventually returns to its normal level after a while, the drain pipe must be partially blocked:
Try to quickly empty a full bucket of hot water into your toilet bowl: additional pressure may help to dislodge the obstruction;
If this does not work, try to unclog the toilet. A basement toilet that you can’t unclog can mean that the floor pipe or your main drain is blocked.
When trying to unblock a clogged toilet, be sure to wear old clothes, rubber gloves and eye protection to protect yourself from splashes.
As mentioned by Pineau Plombier Brossard, always cover the ground with newspapers to protect your floor. By now, you should have unclogged your toilet.
